Just the thought of having your own swimming pool is refreshing and fun, especially during the sultry days of summer.
However, pools need a lot of maintenance and care. After all, everyone deserves a well-balanced, clean pool because no one wants to swim in unkempt water.
Learn three ways to prepare your pool for the summer and enjoy it to the fullest.
1. Clean the cover
First, visit your pool.
You’ll see a lot of dust, twigs, leaves, and other debris covering your pool, and that’s not surprising if you haven’t been maintaining your pool during the long wintry months.
Use a brush with a long handle to wipe down the top of the pool cover, draining off any water that may have collected on the top during the off-season.
But remember not to wipe that water into your swimming pool. Why? Because chances are, it’ll have stuff you wouldn’t want to interact with since it has been sitting in the sun for far too long.
2. Improve the quality of water
This is probably the most important task when it comes to preparing your pool for the hot summer months. But before you do anything else, remember, the health of a pool isn’t determined by how clean the water in it looks—it may be deceptive.
So, skipping this step is a big no. Here’s what you need to do:
§ Use a test strip the check the pH value of the water. If it lies within 7.2 and 7.6, you’re good. If, however, it’s out of this range, adjust the water with pH Minus or pH Plus.
§ Now, measure the level of chlorine within your pool. If it’s around the 1mg/liter mark, it’ll do enough to stop the bacteria from growing. But how do you adjust the chlorine level if it doesn’t fall within the specified range? Simple; use chlorine tablets. However, if you want to take an environmentally friendly route, go for salt electrolysis—a method that many pools are now employing.
3. Get your pool furniture and toys out
Now’s the time to bring in your pool furniture. Before setting it up around your pool, give it a thorough clean.
Review what items you’ve already got and what else do you need to purchase. This may include chairs, tables, along with other furnishings.
Since summer is here, there’s no better time to replenish your supply of pool games, floats, and toys. These items will help keep you and your family entertained throughout the summer.
